The May 2011 issue focuses largely on keeping glass 'green'. Environmental protection is a highly important and current issue for all energy-intensive industries, not least glassmaking, and a special feature in this issue reinforces this fact. Accounts from both flat and container glass manufacturers explain how the respective sectors keep operations energy-efficient and, importantly, push glass as a sustainable material.
Meanwhile, a feature on forming seems to re-emphasise the aim of energy efficiency in bottle making, while columnist John Henderson reminds us of an often overlooked topic - the impact of colour on batch costs.
Ahead of Mir Stekla 2011, the issue also contains a report on the Russian container glass market, as well as a brief preview of what's in store at Moscow's Expocentre this year.

Glass International April 2011 is the official show edition of Glassman Europe 2011 in Barcelona, Spain. It is distributed at the two-day exhibition and conference, which is attended by representatives of major international glass manufacturers. To that end, the issue contains a show catalogue, including exhibitor listings, a floorplan, conference programme and other key information for visitors to Glassman Europe.
Features in this issue include hot glass handling which covers, among other topics, the importance of maintaining the conveyor chain, and the use of wear protection technology for vital components to improve ware handling. Further articles cover different areas of lubrication materials and equipment, including lubricants for flat glass cutting and those for hollow glass requirements.
A special report outlines a project by German mechanical engineers and the Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg establishing the theoretical principles for a single-stage forming process. Meanwhile, the provisional programme for this year's Furnace Solutions conference is presented in Events World.
March 2011
The March 2011 issue contains a range of informative features: Furnace design, which includes an insightful article by UK furnaces specialist FIC (UK); Focus on China, which looks at the country's booming container glass market and previews this year's China Glass exhibition; and Refractories, for which PSR provides a report on how it continues to supply those few remaining hand-made glassmakers with melting pots.
