Glass International Issue

June 2013

The June 2013 issue of Glass International highlights the success of the recent Glassman Europe event, which took place in Warsaw, Poland, in May. A full review of the event includes details of exhibitors and gives an overview of the presentations from the accompanying conference.

The Glassman conference included presentations from Stölzle Glass, FEVE, British Glass and Glass Global, which covered plenty of current issues for delegates to discuss. A selection of the presentations can also be viewed here.

With the return of Glassman on 11th – 12th September 2013, this time in the form of Glassman America in Las Vegas, Nadine Firth, Assistant Editor, provides an overview of the North American container glass industry; highlighting the major manufacturers in the region and how one in particular is dominating the market.

This issue also includes features on ‘Environmental Protection’, in particular an article from FEVE’s Senior Communications Manager, Michael Delle Selve, on the idea of a circular economy as a way of getting more resource-efficient economic models in Europe and the challenges facing the EU container glass industry.

There is also a report by Editor, Greg Morris, which gives an overview of the recent ICG/GlassTrend conference in Eindhoven and how environmental legislation can impact glassmakers.

Other features look at ‘Safety Glazings’, with contributions from major glass manufacturers such as Schott and Guardian, as well as articles focusing on the use of fire glazing in architecture.

This issue also includes a review of the work of the Australian Glass and Glazing Association, which is currently focusing on securing apprentices in the industry.

We also pay homage to Zippe’s Marketing Director Horst Moser, who has recently retired after 44 years at the company and Senior Director, Alfred Zippe, who sadly passed away in February this year.
