Technology group 3M has decided to expand production of hollow glass spheres at its French site in Cambrai by 35%, in a bid to meet rising demand.

The company raised the site’s output by 20% in 2011. The additional capacities are due to come on-stream by the end of this year.

3M’s energy and advanced materials division has also revealed plans to introduce a low-density hollow glass sphere grade with high compressive strength this year. The grade would be earmarked in particular for lightweight plastics applications.
