Allied Glass Containers’ has announced that it is about to receive a significant boost due to a planned investment project, which will see over £3 million invested in the company’s glass colouring capability at its Knottingley, UK plant in the first six months of 2012.

The project will involve the modernisation and expansion of the colour control system, installation of a larger forhearth that will increase glass production capacity to 80 tonnes per day, and the fitting of a new Emhart 8 section five and a half inch double gob IS machine, to add further flexibility to the company’s coloured glass portfolio.

According to the company, the accompanying inspection line will be fully automatic, ensuring the smooth flow of containers from the lehr end to the automatic packaging area. A palletiser completes the line, which is capable of auto packing difficult shapes.

Richard Summers, Allied Glass Containers’ Operations Director, said: “With this substantial investment in our forhearth colouring capability we are making a bold commitment to growth and confirmed our commitment to supplying beautiful coloured glass bottles to the premium spirits market.”
