Asahi Glass Company (AGC) Europe, one of the largest manufacturers of building glass in Europe, is planning to build its third plant in Siberia, Russia.??
The company is currently considering two production sites in the cities of Omsk and Tomsk. In the case of Omsk, the new plant could be built in the area of Kalachinsky, due to its close proximity to one of Russia’s largest fields of silica sand, which is currently estimated at 12.5 million tonnes of sand per km2.
??At the same time, according to the regional OmskPress paper, there is also a possibility that the plant may instead be built in Kazakhstan.??
The plant is expected to specialise in the production of automobile floating glass, as well as the production of commercial flat glass.??
At present, the company already operates two factories in Russia, in particular the Borsky plant, which has the capacity of 34.8 million metres3 of glass a year and a factory in the village of Spas-lane in Klin, which produces 1600 tonnes of float glass per day.
