Cortex Glass has opened a new R&D office in the centre of the city of Groningen, The Netherlands.

The company has doubled its R&D office space to 600m2, which will contribute to the further development of its GobWatch, ISWatch, TopWatch and BlankWatch systems.

CEO Mark Holtkamp said the expansion was the result of continued growth of the business.

He said: “There is a focus on the smart factory and Industry 4.0 at the moment.

"Factories are focused on the hot end. The glass industry now knows that it has to move forward and they have to catch up with other industries in measuring and in process control.

“I think it is now getting in the minds of most glass people that they need to do something in the hot end for the future and Cortex has had more business as a result of that. That’s why we are in a good position now.

“We are an innovative company that makes nice systems for the hot end.”

Most of its business is located in Europe but is has had increased sales in Asia.

Cortex was formed in 2014 and today employs 10 people. The new space is located on the second floor of the same building it occupied in Sint Jansstraat.

The company has employed a new member of staff who starts in September and is currently recruiting new software and hardware engineers.
