Pharmaceutical glassmaker Gerresheimer is stepping up its production capacity and investing approximately €20 million in a fourth production line for prefillable syringes, in a bid to capitalise on the double-digit rates of annual growth seen by the sector.

The new line in Bünde, Germany, which is expected to be complete in 2012, will provide annual capacity for up to 120 million syringes.

“We are a successful supplier of syringes to pharmaceutics customers around the world,” said Uwe Röhrhoff, Chief Executive Officer of Gerresheimer. “Now we are investing in this fast-growing market again to consolidate our global market position further. The technical know-how of our Syringe Competence Centre in Bünde makes it the ideal platform for further growth,” he continued.
