Molten glass leaked from a furnace at PPG Industries’ Carlisle, Pa., USA flat glass plant.
“Molten glass leaked from the furnace into the plant’s basement area,” said a company statement. “The leak has been stopped and contained. The incident is under investigation.”
According to the statement, the local fire department came to the plant to assist with containing the leak, which occurred at 3am on Tuesday. There was no fire associated with the incident.
No injuries were reported, and PPG officials said they do not anticipate any environmental issues or production interruption.
PPG’s Carlisle plant manufactures flat glass for use in the solar, residential and commercial construction markets.
