Guardian Industries has confirmed the planned closure of its glass fabrication plant at Walled Lake in Michigan, USA.
The company’s spokeswoman, Amy Hennes, said that the decision had been made because of ‘continued reduction in business and the ongoing slowdown in the economy’.
After the imminent closure, Guardian Industries’ other production facilities will adopt the glass fabrication and custom toughening services currently being undertaken at Walled Lake.
The plant’s 24 employees will be offered the opportunity to apply for positions at Guardian’s Carleton plant (also in Michigan), Ms Hennes confirmed, adding that the company’s overall policy is to retain glass manufacturing in the USA.
Guardian acquired the Walled Lake facility in 1983. It specialises in the production of glass for residential and commercial customers, for products such as oven doors, fireplace enclosures and lighting.
