The domestic Glass and Glass Product Manufacturing industry in Australia (the glass container market and the flat-glass market) is expected to generate $3.2 billion in 2013-14.
According to a recent IBISWorld report, Imports are expected to capture about 18.7% of the market, with export earnings contributing 3.0% of industry revenue.
The industry is projected to generate revenue of $2.7 billion in 2013-14, representing modest growth by 1.9% over 2013-14, stemming from the upswing in housing construction and particularly new apartment developments.
Industry employment is projected to total 5,200 people in 795 establishments in 2013-14. Employment has steadily trended downwards since the late 2000s due to improvements in productive efficiencies and some plant rationalisation, notably in the automotive glass and wired glass segments.
Over the next five years, the improved demand for flat-glass products in the housing and commercial building markets, coupled with a return to normal household spending on alcohol, is projected to support a stronger performance by both sides of the Glass and Glass Product Manufacturing industry.
