The 25th Hotbels Glass Industry Seminar took place on 13th – 14th April in Lexington in the US state of Kentucky, featuring a number of informative presentations by glass industry suppliers.

The event’s sponsors, Hotwork USA and Fosbel, reported that the conference was ‘especially successful in light of the current economic environment’, welcoming representatives from 31 glass manufacturing facilities and 33 delegates from suppliers of products and services to the glass industry.

As part of the annual seminar, the Hotbels BTU (Business and Technology United) award is presented to recognise an individual who has contributed to the evolution of Hotbels and to the education of the glass industry.

The award, which was established in 2007, was this year presented to John T Brown. Mr Brown joined Corning after graduating from the Ohio State University in Ceramic Engineering.

During his 40-year tenure at Corning, Mr Brown contributed significantly through his work in the melting technology department, the electronics products division, corporate development and research department.

In 2002, he joined the Glass Manufacturing Industry Council (GMIC) as Technical Director. He has written more than 50 papers on various topics and holds 18 patents. He was also honoured with the prestigious Phoenix Award in 2003.
