O-I pleased with asbestos ruling

Owens-Illinois said it was pleased with a favourable ruling by a judge in an asbestos-related case.

The case stemmed from allegations the Perrysburg-based glass container company took part in a conspiracy to conceal or misrepresent the health risks associated with asbestos.

The ruling negated $9.6 million in compensatory damages and $40 million in punitive damages. The case is subject to appeal.

The case was decided by a judge in McLean County, Illinois, USA last Friday.
