Pilkington Pyroclear technology has been given the seal of approval by Certifire, for use with steel and timber frames.
The company hopes that this will encourage use of the glass in more architectural applications.
Pilkington Pyroclear (pictured) is a modified, toughened glass for basic integrity fire resistance where clear glazing may be required. The Certifire standard awarded to it is recognised by regulatory authorities worldwide, and is an internationally respected mark of fire safety.
The glass is therefore able to be used as a physical barrier against flames, smoke and fumes. Its prime purpose should be for fire containment to protect against the risks that occur in the early stages of fire. This period is commonly taken to be the initial period for escape to a place of safety before major fire development, and for this reason it can be an ideal choice for doors, screens, skylights and roof glazing.
