UK supplier Parkinson-Spencer Refractories (PSR) has been awarded certification that its environmental management system meets the requirements of ISO 14001:2004.

Complete Integrated Certification Services (CICS) awarded the standard that specifies the requirements for an environmental management system. It provides a framework for the management of environmental issues over which an organisation has control and over which it can be expected to have an influence. The purpose of the standard is to assist organisations to protect the environment, prevent pollution and improve their environmental performance.

“Refractory manufacturing companies can have a large impact on the environment both in the way they use resources and the way they dispose of any wastes,” says PSR’s Technical Manager Jafar Daji. “With a company as old as PSR, operating from a site that can trace its origins back more than 200 years, environmental issues have not always been a priority and certification of our environmental management system is a significant achievement and will bring the company in line with modern practices.”
