A symposium to honour the work and lifetime achievements of Alicia Durán will be held as part of the Sustainable Industrial Processing Summit (SIPS) in Panama.

The Durán International Symposium on Sustainable Glass Processing and Applications will be held as part of SIPS 2023.

SIPS will take place at Hyatt's Dreams Playa Bonita Resort in Panama from November 27 to December 1, 2023.

The symposium is in honour of the work and lifetime achievements of Prof Alicia Durán, a well-known glass industry professional.

Topics will include energy savings, the environment, renewable energies, and furnace technologies.

Prof Durán is a research professor at Instituto de Cermaic y Vidrio, as well as the former president of the International Commission on Glass (ICG) and the International Year of Glass (IYOG) Chair.

She has won several industry awards, including the Otto Schott Research Award at last year’s 26th International Congress on Glass in Germany, and the Phoenix Award Committee's Glass Person of the Year 2019 (see above image).

Prof Durán has published over 270 articles in WOK/Scopus journals, with more than 6900 citations, and a h-index of 50 (the highest index in Spain for Science Materials and Ceramics).

She has also published 14 books, and has given more than 40 international talks from 2010-2022.
