The city of Helsinki, Finland and the Helsinki Music Centre Foundation joined together in a €140 million project to update the old cultural heart of the capital, the Finlandia Hall.
The Helsinki Music Hall is currently under construction and upon completion in the summer of 2011, it will accommodate 1700 music lovers in its large concert hall and up to 400 in each of its five additional halls.
In the city where temperatures below -15°C are not unusual and the average annual temperature is only 5°C, an entirely glass building may seem ambitious in terms of heat insulation. However, the project’s architect, LPR Architects, alongside façade construction specialist Normek, are using triple-pane heat insulation glass from Interpane to combat this problem.
A total of 3600m2 of its IPlus neutral E glass protects the new hall from the cold. As the temperature can also rise above 30°C in the summer, protection from overheating is also required.
The planners addressed this challenge using Interpane’s Ipasol neutral glass.
