David Parkinson, of Parkinson-Spencer Refractories (PSR), has been elected to the fellowship of the Society of Glass Technology in the UK.
Mr Parkinson, Managing Director of PSR, was elected at the SGT’s annual dinner dance on Friday night in Leeds, UK.
Mark Brew, chairman of the SGT board of fellows said: “The Board has made diligent enquiries regarding his qualifications, achievements and service to the glass industry and consider him a fit and proper person to be elected to the fellowship of the society.”
Approximately 200 people attended the event, which marked the end of the SGT’s centenary celebrations.
SGT President, Russell Hand said it had been an exceedingly good year.
“There have been a whole series of events to mark the centenary, ranging from technical courses to a golf day, as well as an extremely successful centenary conference.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as president during this centenary year. Obviously the next challenge now is to look forward to the next 100 years!”
The first formal meeting of the SGT took place on November 9th, 1917 at the University of Sheffield in the UK. The actual centenary was marked by a small gathering of people at the same venue.
Approximately 200 people attended the dinner dance at Oulton Hall, Leeds, UK who were from local glassworks including Allied and Stölzle, members of the British Glass association and suppliers to the industry such as Pennine, Sheppee, Marpack and Fives. Glass International also attended.
The event was sponsored by UK suppliers including Pennine Industrial, Parkinson-Spencer Refractories, Fives Stein, Graphoidal, Sheppee International, Pro-Sight, Groupe Rondot and glass manufacturer Stölzle.
