Şişecam Glass Packaging has commissioned a TL120 million ($33.7 million) furnace at its Mersin plant.

The introduction of the 90,000 tonnes/year furnace will increase the group’s glass packaging capacity to 1 million tons in the Turkish market.

The plant’s third furnace will be equipped with Industry 4.0 technology in accordance with the group’s strategy.

Şişecam Group Deputy Chairman and CEO Prof. Ahmet Kırman said: “This investment at the Mersin plant will further increase our glass packaging exports, which had already reached a record level last year. As always, our group remains committed to sustainable growth.”

He added that the Şişecam Glass Packaging group now has three production lines that can produce anything from jars to bottles in various colours.

“The Mersin plant is of critical importance in terms of exports, thanks to its proximity to the port.”
