Competing against over 5,000 products, the Puzzle glass bowl created by Steklarna Hrastnik has received the Red Dot Award for Product Design.

Red Dot is among the world’s most prestigious product design contests.

This year a total of 5,214 products were entered in this year’s contest and only 1.5% emerged as award-winners.

The international jury of 41 experts evaluated the product design category using the criteria of innovation, functionality, useful and actual quality, ergonomics, durability, symbolic and emotional value, details, and environmental awareness.

The Puzzle bowl – the world’s first 3D stackable glass product, pictured – is the result of in-house design, development, and production.

Andrej Božič, General Manager of Steklarna Hrastnik, said of the jury’s decision: “We see [this award] as further proof of the quality of our work, innovative ideas of our industrial designers, and technical knowledge of our development and production teams.”

Steklarna Hrastnik offers a full range of services – from design, tool development, and production of glass products in small or large batches, to applying final decorations if requested by the client.

Steklarna Hrastnik’s Grega Likar, the designer of the product, said: “The Puzzle bowls have come about as a result of an idea I had to combine the aesthetic and useful value of a product in order to create more possibilities for use and take consumers into a new world of creativity and experimenting.

“It is the diversity of its uses and its excellent 3D modular properties – the possibility of horizontal and vertical stacking – that make Puzzle such a unique product.”

Steklarna Hrastnik is aware of its social responsibility and the importance of co-existing within the community; with this in mind, they are investing part of the revenue from Puzzle sales in the local community in order to enable students to gain experience and apply their theoretical knowledge in practice.
