Zimbabwe Glass Industries (Zimglass) has resumed production of flint glass soft drinks bottles.
The bottles will be supplied to leading beverage manufacturer Delta Beverage, and Zimglass is expected to produce 2100 tonnes of flint glass containers per month until March next year.
The Gweru-based company reopened last year after having suspended operations for three years, to embark on a refurbishment exercise of the blast furnace as well as replace outdated equipment.
Zimglass, which has a workforce of about 350, has re-engaged all the workers that were sent on unpaid leave when the company suspended operations in 2010.
A spokesman for the company said Zimglass was gradually recovering from challenges caused by what they describe as ‘illegal sanctions’ imposed on the company.
