Non-contact temperature measurement specialist, Ametek Land has revealed that its Physics Section Manager, Dr. Fiona Turner, will speak at the Society of Glass Technology (SGT) Centenary Conference, September 4-8, 2016, at the University of Sheffield, UK.
Dr. Turner’s topic is “Infrared Temperature Measurement of Thermally Tempered Low- Emissivity Glass.”
Dr. Turner, a Chartered Physicist, specialises in instrumentation and metrology. She joined Ametek Land six years ago and manages its in-house optical and radiometric development work and academic collaborations.
She has played a key role in developing the company’s SPOT thermometer range and undertaken extensive application- specific site trials.
“I am looking forward to speaking at this prestigious industry event, especially on the Society of Glass Technology’s 100th anniversary,” she said.
My presentation will focus on infrared temperature measurement solutions for glass tempering process control and cover the significant challenges of working with the transmissive and reflective characteristics of heat-strengthened and thermally tempered low emissivity glass, particularly in the largely enclosed tempering installations found in industrial glass plants.”
“That includes a look at Ametek Land’s LSP-HD line scanner, which measures the low- emissivity glass surface through a narrow gap between the furnace and air blowers and is aligned with a high-precision spot pyrometer, which measures the underside of the glass.
"Together, the two instruments generate a true thermal map of the entire glass surface with sub-spot resolution that can be used to adjust furnace control parameters to achieve a uniform surface temperature and produce visually perfect glass.”
Ametek Land also will exhibit at FSC Furnace Solutions, another part of the SGT Centenary Conference scheduled for Thursday, September 8, 2016 at the University of Sheffield.
Land will demonstrate and discuss its latest temperature measurement innovations, specifically those designed for the glass industry, including the recently launched thermal imaging Near Infrared Borescope (NIR-B) for the use in glass-melt tanks.
