According to reports, the Competition Commission of India has imposed a penalty of Rs 5.66 crore on the Indian arm of German company Schott Glass India for anti-competitive practices.
The competition watchdog charged Schott with abusing its dominant market position after a complaint by Kapoor Glass, which alleged that the company had abused its dominant position in the industry by imposing unfair and discriminatory conditions on the purchase of goods related to glass tubes in India.
“The Commission decided to impose a penalty on opposing party (Schott) for its act of distorting competition in the market. Taking into account anti-competitive effects arising out of its conduct in the relevant market in India. The Commission feels that end of justice would be met if penalty at a rate of 4% on the average of three years turnover (Rs 5.66 crore) is imposed,” said a release by the Commission.
