AGC Glass North America is shutting down its Blue Ridge Plant in Kingsport, USA.

Company officials have notified employees that the plant, which produced glass for the solar industry will be closed.

“We regret having to deliver this news to our employees and the Kingsport community,” said company spokesman Chris Correnti. “We have explored numerous avenues to continue operations but obstacles are just too great for us to overcome.”

He cited weak demand for solar glass and a sluggish global economy as the reasons for the shutdown. AGC is hoping to relocate a few of the displaced employees to its operations in Church Hill and Abingdon, and those willing to relocate may be transferred to AGC facilities elsewhere in the country.
