Workers at AGC’s Boussois flat glass plant, France are currently on strike in protest at the closure of its B1 furnace.

According to La Voix du Nord, a French newspaper, at least 130 jobs will be lost as a result of the closure. AGC told workers last Friday about the closure and it would remain shut for at least three years.

Workers said they have had to make many concessions in the past five years such as working alternative hours and agreeing on a wage freeze.

The B1 furnace had a capacity of 650t in 2008. The site’s B2 furnace, built in 1989 but revamped in 2009 has a 780 tonnes capacity.

The plant employs 260 people.
