Investment holding company Ajiya has announced that it will invest a total of RM30 million in two new safety glass processing plants in Malaysia and Thailand.
A third of the capital will be invested in a plant in the Malaysian city of Shah Alam, while the other RM20 million will be put into setting up facility in Bangkok, Thailand.
Managing Director of Ajiya, Chan Wah Kiang, said that the Shah Alam facility would begin operations in the first quarter of 2011, with the Bangkok plant following a few months later.
“This will further strengthen our position as the leading metal roll and safety glass processing player in Malaysia and Thailand,” said Mr Wah Kiang, adding that the use of safety glass in new buildings was becoming prevalent all over the world due to its aesthetic value and contemporary look.
It is expected that the Shah Alam plant will serve the central region of Peninsular Malaysia, while in Bangkok, the other plant will cater for the company’s Thai and Indochinese markets, particularly Cambodia and Vietnam.
