Ardagh Group is to close its Salem, N.J., glass container facility on or after October 15, 2014, due to the loss of significant business at the facility.
The Salem glass manufacturing facility is one of 16 the company operates in North America, and has approximately 290 employees that will be affected by the closing.
“While this is certainly a difficult day for the Salem facility and its employees, the company remains firmly committed to ensuring the long-term competitiveness of its glass container business,” said John Riordan, President & CEO of Ardagh Group, Glass – North America. “Our company will continue to focus on making the changes required to ensure our lasting success.”
Employees at the Salem facility will be eligible for a variety of plant closing benefits, severance payments and continuation of health care coverage for an extended period.
“Ardagh Group is committed to assisting its Salem employees during this challenging period by providing career counselling, placement support and resume preparation assistance,” said Rick Poynter, Senior Vice President, Human Resources for Ardagh Group, Americas.
“We will be working with local organisations and other company locations to help identify potential job opportunities. The company will also fully honour all of its commitments under the collective bargaining agreements, and to our employees, customers and suppliers.”
