Rotherham MP Sarah Champion will support Beatson Clark to reduce its carbon tax.
Ms Champion visited Beatson Clark to see the results of its £21 million investment for equipment, which started in 2018.
Established in 1751, Beatson Clark is one of the few UK glass manufacturers to have its own recycling plant and the only UK manufacturer that produces amber medical glass.
However, whilst Beatson Clark’s energy is green, it still faces a heavy carbon tax from the government.
Meanwhile, Europe subsidise its glass manufacturers' energy costs.
Turkey, India, Middle and the Far East also don’t get taxed for their CO2 emissions.
This led Ms Champion offering to support Beatson Clark to level the playing field with its international competitors.
She said: “I’ve given my commitment to Beatson Clark that I’ll challenge the Government to try and get this key Rotherham business more support so it can have a fair chance to make glass in our town for the next 300 years.”
