Bucher Emhart Glass reported an increase in sales despite a downturn in demand from China.

In its end of year 2016 financial report, it stated demand for glass forming and inspection machinery was stable overall, although the Chinese market was affected by the economic downturn and surplus capacity in the glass container industry.

Order intake was below the previous year for project-related reasons. Demand for Bucher Emhart Glass machinery in South America was good. The positive development of the spare parts business and the close cooperation with O-I also contributed to a pleasing performance. Demand for glass container forming machines sank to a low level in China.

Net sales were CHF 371 million ($375 million) compared to CHF360 million ($360 million) in 2015, an increase of 3%. Order intake was down 12.2% from CHF400 million ($404 million) in 2015 to CHF 351 million ($355 million) in 2016.
