Bucher Emhart Glass reported a record order intake in 2019 thanks to strong demand from glass container manufacturers.

The Cham, Switzerland-based glass technology supplier said glass manufacturers continued to invest in expanding and modernising their production capacities.

Order intake in 2019 was CHF524 million ($540.4 million), up from CHF499 million ($514.6 million) in 2018, a 4.9% increase.

It said its collaboration with O-I and a recovery in the inspection machines business also supported the growth.

It said: “The division expects the operating profit margin for 2019 to significantly exceed the previous year’s very good level, thanks to the fully utilised production capacities, good margins in project business and efficiency gains in China.”

It expects demand to normalise in 2020 ‘following the extraordinary momentum of the last two years.’

Sales in 2019 were CHF487million ($502.2million), up from CHF447million ($461.0 million) in 2018.
