Carib Glass will commission a second furnace in April to double the company’s capacity from 35,000 tonnes to 70,000 tonnes a year.
Potential entry into the Cuban market was one of the reasons which influenced the decision to invest in the furnace.
The Trinidad and Tobago-based company is the only container glass manufacturer in the Caribbean with major exports to the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Puerto Rico and the US.
It made the decision to invest $180 million in a new plant about 15 months ago.
