Parglass’s $80 million glass plant in Paraguay is on schedule to fire its furnace in less than a year.
Civil construction is advancing as scheduled, with the facility approximately 50% complete.
The furnace is set to start in July next year.
The project is a partnership between local glass company Parglass and Mexican glassmaker Pavisa.
Sergio Cibils Baumann, Director of Parglass, said the plant would be the most sustainable glass container plant in the world and have the lowest carbon footprint.
“There is a lot of interest because it is something atypical, it is a greenfield project, sustainable and powered by 100% renewable energy. It is very exciting.
“We are very proud to bring a new industry to our country, which will represent more than 150 direct jobs, once running, and about 600 jobs during the whole construction process.”
When complete, the glass will be made using a 160 to 200 tpd fully electric furnace supplied by Sorg, featuring VSM technology.
The furnace will be powered by hydropower from a nearby dam.
Parglass appointed French firm Chovet with the detailed engineering project.
Mr Baumann said: “Their contribution was very positive for the entire project design and helped us ground our goal of having the most sustainable, flexible, and innovative plant in the world.”
