InoChem, a Saudi Joint Stock Company is constructing first soda ash manufacturing plant in Saudi Arabia.

Located in the Ras-Al- Khair Industrial area, the production facility will cover an area of 80,000m2.

The company has been contemplating to start the commercial operations by early 2022.

However, Covid 19 pandemic related travel restrictions have forced the company to defer the commercial production until second half of 2022.

This would be first soda ash production facility in Saudi Arabia and the GCC region. It would bring a much needed respite to Saudi Arabia and other GCC- based float and container glass producers.

To date, glass producers in the Kingdom and other GCC countries are forced to import soda ash from Turkey, Kenya, China, India and the USA.

The $300 million complex will produce 300,000 tons of soda ash (light and dense) annually along with 300,000 tons per annum of calcium chloride, while also allowing for future production increases to take place.

China’s Chengda Engineering and Jacobs Engineers are the technology and project contractors for the project.
