Ilis has announced a development of the StrainScope and StrainCam, for the objective measurement of inherent stresses in glass during the production process.
Mechanical stresses can strongly impair the fracture strength and processing ability of glass products, therefore testing for residual stresses close to production is an important constituent of quality control.
According to the company, with this development it has succeeded in detecting material and production-induced stresses at an early stage.
“Even small residual stresses can lead to an increased probability of fracture. Strict compliance with limits is therefore of great economic importance, especially in sensitive products such as pharmaceutical packaging,” said Henning Katte, Managing Director.
