36 million tonnes of Oil Equivalent (Mtoe) of energy could be saved by 2030 in the EU according to members at the 3rd Convention of Glass Associations meeting.

The meeting said that this can only happen by doubling the window renovation rate and ensuring the installation of high performance glazing products are readily available on the market.

The meeting took place in Venice in July and was organised by Vitrum and the Italian Trade Agency (ITA).

Audience members appreciated Glass for Europe’s intervention, which examined the outcome of the TNO study on the energy and CO2 emissions savings potential of glazing.

Participants acknowledged that supporting the uptake of high-performance glazing is a sine qua non prerequisite for reduced emissions in buildings.

The convention gathered together glass associations and journalists from Australia, Brazil, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, the UK, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, United States and Italy.
