Friends of Glass and Recycle Now have released an online glass recycling resource pack for local authorities and waste businesses.

The Glass Recycling Resource Pack provides waste and recycling officers and personnel with the latest information, guidance and best practice for consumer communications aimed at increasing the quality and quantity of household glass recycling.

The initiative is a joint partnership between Friends of Glass, the consumer campaign run by British Glass that promotes the benefits of glass packaging for health, taste and the environment, and Recycle Now, the campaign run by WRAP the resource efficiency charity that drives positive change in recycling behaviour.

Rebecca Cocking, spokesperson for Friends of Glass, commented: “Most glass packaging is consumed in the home so encouraging householders to always recycle all of their bottles and jars is really important, whether that’s at the kerbside or at glass banks.

“This new guide gives relevant, up to date information about glass recycling in one place, so those charged with creating consumer communication campaigns aimed at increasing recycling have all they need at their fingertips.

“As the findings in Viridor’s recycling index revealed this week, consumers are still commonly confused about what the can and can’t recycle, so the timing of its launch couldn’t be better”.

Alice Harlock, spokesperson for Recycle Now, commented: “This new glass recycling guide is part of Recycle Now’s’ ongoing strategy to provide local authorities with the resources they need to keep raising the bar on household recycling.

“Increasing glass packaging recycling is an important element in helping the UK achieve the Government’s target of a 50% recycling rate by 2020.”

The Glass Recycling Resource Guide includes useful, up to date facts and figures, guidance and templates, frequently asked questions, links to video content and other resources.
