Gerresheimer will close its Millville, New Jersey moulded glass manufacturing plant, due to a slow market demand and in an effort to consolidate its operations throughout the US.

The decision will affect approximately 100 employees and follows on from the company’s decision to lay-off more than 100 staff members earlier this year.

Norman Angel, Vice President Moulded Glass, US Operations, said: “We announce this difficult decision early in order to make the transition process as smooth as we can. We thank our dedicated workforce in Millville for their effort and energy.

"We are committed to working with employment groups and union representatives to ensure transition benefits and support are available to assist employees as they move into the local employment market.”

The US market accounts for approximately 20% of Gerresheimer’s sales.

Following the closure the company will have six moulded glass plants worldwide, with its US manufacturing operations based at its Chicago plant. The other plants are Kosamba, India; Momignies, Belgium; and Lohr, Tettau and Essen, all in Germany.

Overall, Gerresheimer has 40 plants worldwide that cater to the glass and plastic pharmaceutical industries.
