Gerresheimer to close US glass site

A total of 172 glass workers will be impacted by the closure of Gerresheimer's Chicago Heights, Illinois, USA facility.

Gerresheimer is set to close its Chicago Heights, Illinois, USA glass manufacturing facility.

A total of 172 employees will be impacted by the closure which will take place by the end of the year, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN).

The German-headquartered pharmaceutical glass manufacturer said it will transfer the business to its three other Type 1 Moulded Glass plants in Italy and India.

The company said the moulded glass facility in Chicago Heights manufactures primary packaging made of type I glass for pharmaceutical applications.

Products include serum bottles, infusion bottles and screw-cap bottles in various designs.
