Thai beverage maker Osotspa has closed a glass furnace at its Ayutthaya, Thailand facility.

The 250t/day AY1 oven, which had been supplied by Horn Glass Industries, closed earlier this month and led to the loss of 200 jobs.

It has been attached to three 10-section triple gob IS machines.

It follows the shutdown of the AY2 200 t/day furnace at the same site, which took place in February this year.

Both furnaces mainly supplied energy drinks to Osotspa.

The energy drink market, which is Osotspa's main product, has been in decline.

This combined with the economic situation in Thailand led Osotspa to make its decision.

The AY1 furnace had only been in operation for six years, while AY2 was heated up after a cold repair in March 2020.

Osotspa has been approached for comment.
