Currently, the Conference on Glass Problems (GPC) is sponsored by the Department of Material Science and Engineering at the Ohio State University (OSU). OSU’s sponsorship of the GPC will end following the 72nd GPC at Columbus, Ohio in October 18th - 19th 2011 at the Fawcett Centre on the OSU campus.
Professor Charles Drummond had been chairing this event for OSU. He recently retired and is finishing up his duties with OSU and the GPC. Beginning in 2012, the GPC will be hosted by the Inamori School of Engineering at Alfred University and the Glass Manufacturing Industry Council (GMIC).
The GPC is the leading North American conference related to the production of glass and is important to GMIC members. Executive Director Bob Lipetz met with the Advisory Board of the GPC to offer GMIC support and resources to ensure an ongoing and thriving conference. The Advisory Board voted to have the GMIC take over support of the conference.
The GMIC Executive Committee, as well as the Board of Trustees, has voted unanimously and enthusiastically to commit the resources of the GMIC to ensure an ‘ongoing and robust’ GPC. This is a long-term commitment from the GMIC, which believes that this initiative directly supports the strategic plan developed to enable the successful future of the glass manufacturing industry.
