South American country Guyana is considering constructing a container
glass facility.
It has appointed the Inter-American Development Bank (CDB) to carry out
a feasibility study on whether a glass bottle plant should be constructed to
satisfy demand.
President of the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA),
Ramsey Ali said the study should take about two months.
There are concerns that a Trinidad-based glass bottle manufacturer would be unable to satisfy regional demand.
Mr Ali said Guyana would have substantial energy capacity from a 300
megawatt natural gas-fired power plant at Wales, West Bank Demerara to satisfy
electricity demand from a glass bottling plant.
The feasibility study will be carried out by Ernst and Young.
