The deadline to find buyers of French glass manufacturer Holophane has been extended until next month.

The glass producer was placed into receivership in November last year.

But now after a review by the Commercial Court of Evreux buyers and partners have until February 28 to express an interest in buying the company.

Holophane is a producer of glass fog lamps and of lenses for use in the automotive sector.

Management say the Covid pandemic has led to a slowdown in economic activity, particularly in the automotive market.

Added to this was the historic rise in the cost of energy, which has tripled to €10.5 million.

The company’s strengths include a melting furnace renovated in October 2022 with an estimated service life of five years, with a capacity of 80 tonnes of soda-lime glass per day.

The site also includes seven lines of automatic presses supplied directly by the furnace, including four with a quenching arch.

There is the possibility, after investment, to add a second soda-lime or borosilicate furnace, with the backing of local authorities such as the town Hall, Normandy region and the state to ensure the continuity of Holophane and maintain employment of its 230 staff.

Its turnover in 2022 is estimated to be €29.5 million.
