French automotive lights company Holophane looks set to close with the loss of 208 jobs.

The glassworks, located in Andelys (Eure), near Rouen, France will be placed in liquidation by a commercial court and is expected to close early next year.

It went into receivership in November 2022 and has been unable to find a buyer since.

The Eure regional government said in a press release: “The verdict of the Évreux commercial court fell yesterday and recorded the closure of the century-old Andelys glassworks.”

Holophane’s woes began with the withdrawal of orders from a major customer, Valeo, which represented around 40% of its turnover.

Its energy costs then increased when war broke out in Ukraine and the price of gas soared.

The site was opened in 1921 and was located on a 40,000m2 industrial site.
