Horn Glass Industries has completed a furnace rebuilding project for Tunisian glass producer Sotuver.
Sotuver approached glass melting technology specialist Horn with a cold repair project for its No.2 furnace in Tunisia, North Africa.
This included the replacement of the existing furnace, which was converted into a 150 t/d regenerative end fired furnace.
Under the construction supervision of Horn, together with its subsidiary company Horn India, the new melting furnace was commissioned on July 16th, 2024.
The furnace was designed to optimise energy consumption to reduce carbon emissions.
It also includes two forehearths from the Horn GCS 301-advanced series for the production of container glass in emerald green.
The forehearth system has direct/indirect cooling to obtain optimum temperature homogeneity at the spout.
The order also included the enlargement of the existing melting area to 66.3 m².
Within this furnace rebuild, Horn supplied a complete package of design, engineering of the refractory materials and steel structure, as well as the complete construction works.
Horn’s scope of supply also included the natural gas heating for the furnace and forehearths, as well as their measuring and control equipment, together with a SCADA process control system and proven batch charging technology.
Horn thanked Sotuver for its trust in its work and said it looked forward to the successful continuation of their partnership.
Sotuver is a manufacturer of hollow glass, and has produced glass containers for the food industry since 1967, covering the Mediterranean basin, Africa and the Middle East.
