The International Commission on Glass (ICG) has appointed Erik Muijsenberg, Group Business Development Director of Glass Service, as its President.
During the ICG meetings held in Lyon on 11–12 April, Mr Muijsenberg officially assumed the role of ICG President for the period 2026–2029.
He will take over from Hiroyuki Inoue, Emeritus Professor at the University of Tokyo in Japan.
The presidential badge was presented by former ICG President Reinhard Conradt (2021-2024), highlighting a long standing ICG tradition that symbolises continuity in leadership and shared responsibility.
The ICG Council also approved Edgar Dutra Zanotto, Director of CeRTEV, as ICG Vice President.
The ICG is an international association of scientists and technologists, research centres, universities and companies, whose main objective is to promote understanding and stimulate co-operation in the field of glass science and technology, as well as glass history and art.
Erik Muijsenberg biography
Mr Muijsenberg graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Eindhoven, the Netherlands, in 1990.
He began his career at TNO Glass, focusing on furnace modelling and glass melt technology, later becoming Head of the Glass Department.
In 1998, he became Managing Director of Glass Service (B.V.), establishing the company’s first subsidiary in the Netherlands.
He later moved to the Czech Republic, where he served as Group Vice President.
Since 2024, following the integration of Glass Service Group into SEFPRO, Mr Muijsenberg has held the position of Group Business Development Director.
He has been a strong advocate of Industry 4.0 in the glass industry, promoting model-based furnace control and carbon emission reduction for more than 20 years.
Mr Muijsenberg is also the recipient of several international awards, including the Otto Schott Award (1997), the ICG Turner Award (2023) and the N.L. Varshneya Memorial Award (2023), and served as Chairman of the Phoenix Glass Person of the Year (2024).
