A conference focused on the increased use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital technology in glass manufacturing.

Delegates at the event, organised by Indian association the AIGMF, heard how AI can be used to deliver benefits to the glass production industry.

Opening the conference, AIGMF president and AGI Greenpac CEO Rajesh Khosla, below, delivered a keynote presentation about AI and how it can be applied to the different processes in glassmaking.

Focusing on batch house, furnaces, forming, inspection and packaging, he highlighted how AI and digital technology can deliver benefits to current processes.

For example, in furnaces, AI can help deliver an optimal fuel/air mix enabling lower CO2, while predictive wear analytics can extend furnace life.

In forming, digital twins can optimise gob flow, enabling fewer rejects, he said.

Concluding his speech he said: "AI is not there to replace people, it is there to empower the industry to produce smarter, deliver safer and grow greener."

The conference, held at the Glasspex trade show in Mumbai, India last week, featured eight papers on the subject of AI and digitalisation.

Among those companies which provided papers were Glass Service CZ, Heye International, Iris Inspection machines, Siemens and Celsian.

It culminated in a panel discussion of chaired by AIGMF Secretary Vinit Kapur.

Earlier in the day saw the launch of a calendar bottle 2026 provided by AGI as well as a book launch focused on Excellence in Container Glass Manufacturing (see separate web story).
