Two Italian companies have collaborated to produce a highly sustainable bottle.

Verallia Italia and Conserve Italia partnered for the development of a new line of carbonated drinks.

Made from 71% external cullet, the bottles are for the new Derby Blue Frutta Frizzante line, a brand known for its fruit juices.

They are made from cobalt blue glass, a sustainable material that contributes to reducing the impact of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.

Blue glass also protects the bottle’s contents from light, preserving the quality of the product.

Farid Qoraich, sales director of Verallia’s food and export area, said: “For over 30 years, we have shared a path with Conserve Italia built on trust, vision and continuous innovation: a concrete example of how an industrial partnership can evolve over time and generate lasting value.

“Together we have transformed the cobalt blue glass of Derby Blue into a distinctive brand asset, immediately recognisable by the consumer and consistent with the values of identity, product protection and environmental sustainability.

“Glass is a premium material by definition: it enhances the product in different consumer contexts, reinforces the perception of quality and becomes a real brand communication tool, both in retail and in the horeca channel.

“It is when it becomes part of an overall strategy, and is not considered a simple container, that glass expresses its full potential.”

Verallia is the world’s third largest manufacturer of glass packaging for beverages and food products, with 35 production sites in 12 countries.

It produced almost 18 billion glass bottles and jars and recorded revenues of €3.3 billion in 2025.

The company’s partnership with Conserve Italia, an agri-food company with a €1.15 billion turnover in 2024-25, has lasted for over 30 years, with the two collaborating on Conserve Italia brands such as Cirio, Yoga, and now Derby Blue.

Andrea Colombo, Italian sales director for Conserve Italia, said: “Sustainability represents a fundamental strategic lever for Conserve Italia and guides our industrial and investment choices.

“With the development plan we have launched, by the end of 2027 we aim to reach the milestone of 93,500 tons of CO₂ saved in nine years, which is equivalent to the absorption of the annual emissions of a city of 17,000 inhabitants.

“In this process, packaging plays a central role and therefore also glass as a recyclable material.

“The collaboration with Verallia Italia allows us to develop increasingly advanced solutions in this direction, contributing to the sustainability goals we have set ourselves for the coming years.”
