KCC has inaugurated a $258 million flat glass manufacturing facility in Batang Integrated Industrial Zone (KIT), Central Java, Indonesia.
The KCC Glass Indonesia facility will have a capacity to produce 1,200 tons of sheet glass a day and employ 400 people.
This marks the first time a South Korean glass manufacturer has established a production base overseas.
The furnace ignition ceremony was attended by KCC Glass Chairman Chung Mong-ik, Indonesia's Minister of Investment Rosan Roeslani, and 200 officials from KCC Glass and local political and business dignitaries.
Mr Rosan P. Roeslani, officiated the initial production and said that 80% of its production will be for export, with 20% catering for the domestic market.
Park Won-Joo, CEO of KCC Glass Indonesia, affirmed the company’s commitment to producing high-quality sheet glass.
“The KCC Glass factory in KIT Batang is equipped with world-class technology, ensuring it produces the highest quality glass sheets in the world with top-tier productivity,” Park said.
With the completion of the Batang plant in Indonesia, KCC Glass now has a combined annual flat glass production capacity of 1.74 million tons, including its Yeoju plant in South Korea,
Indonesia's Association of Sheet and Safety Glass (AKLP) had previously urged the government to implement a domestic market obligation (DMO) policy of 60% for natural gas to ensure the industry’s sustainability.
AKLP’s chairman, Yustinus Gunawan, noted the urgency of this policy, especially with two new glass factories, including PT KCC Glass Indonesia and PT Xinyi Glass Indonesia, needing a stable gas supply to operate efficiently.
