Libbey is to invest US$20 million in its Shreveport, Louisiana, site.

The company will invest in new technology and add a research and development component to its operations.

It is thought the investment will generate 70 direct jobs, averaging more than US$38,000 per year, plus benefits.

In 2011, Libbey announced it would be updating the Shreveport site with a US$9 million renovation of an existing glass-making furnace.

This investment was completed, but the company later had to reduce its workforce due to decreased market demand.
