Maltha Portugal, a subsidiary of Renewi, has increased the production capacity of its Figueira da Foz glass recycling site.

Malta Portugal began the transition of its Figueira da Foz site two years ago.

Old equipment was replaced at the facility, and the site modernised its optical sorters and increased its production line capacity.

With these investments, Maltha increased its volumes, product quality and added covered storage space including solar panels.

Kevin Bell, General Manager of Maltha, said: "We invested in sustainability, personnel and safety. In addition to standing for absolute quality of process and product, we also stand for maximum safety for people and the environment. Safety is one of our core values at Maltha.

"We also invested in solar energy. 25% of the energy we use comes from our own energy source".

Bell continued that Maltha has the goal to recycle all its collected glass into 100% virgin glass materials.

“Expertise, craftsmanship and innovation is our vision, and we are constantly looking for improvements in the quality of our cullet and ways to increase the recycled content in packaging materials."

In the coming months, Maltha will further develop its site with new investments to increase its capacity and expand to other countries to help achieve ambitious European sustainability goals.
