Glass technology specialists have confirmed their participation at a conference focused on glass manufacturing.

TECO, Condat and Rath will all speak at the Glassman Latin America conference in Mexico City which takes pace May 15 and 16.

The two-day conference, focused on the Future of Glass, will have two themes – Decarbonisation in Glassmaking, and Digital Glassmaking.

A summary of each of the speakers is provided below.

TECO
TECO's Brian J Naveken (below), Manager of Technology & Technical Sales, will discuss True Carbon Neutrality in Glass at the event in Mexico.

In his talk he will discuss that there are basically three paths to carbon neutrality for glass manufacturing. These being carbon capture/sequestration, alternative fuels and batch modifications.

This presentation will focus on the alternative fuels, specifically hydrogen, and the batch materials.

Currently, hydrogen is the most viable candidate as an alternative fuel and the economics, logistics, safety and technical feasibility will be addressed.

In the production of glass, the carbonate forms of the raw materials are used and can produce approximately 35% of the CO2 emissions.

The reasons behind the use of the carbonate forms and impact on the operating costs will be explored.

Condat

Mr. Victor Grardel (above), Glass Market Manager, Condat, will discuss Swabbing Greases, the Right Product for the Right Job and how they can improve productivity.

Swabbing greases are vital lubricants in the container glass manufacturing process to ensure a high and constant productivity.

If graphite has been a central element in swabbing greases formulations thanks to its efficiency, it can also be at the origin of some well-known defects in glass making.

Condat white swabbing greases avoid any graphite transfer. Automatic rejects after swabbing can be decreased and so millions of bottles are saved every year.

In this conference, experience how Condat can help you replace graphite in your workshop and also enhance technical benefits for a more efficient and safer working environment.

Rath

Robert Nusszer (above), Head of Sales Glass, Rath, will discuss how the installation of feeder expendables from a refractory perspective can avoid of machine downtimes caused by typical installation errors.

Due to high productivity, minimising machine downtimes has the highest priority in the container glass industry.

It is well known that in all areas of the glass making industry, high-quality refractories are the basis for superior glass conditioning.

Their use in forehearth and feeder mechanisms plays a crucial role in the formation and conditioning of glass prior to being formed into finished products.

However, to achieve good refractory performance, we must always bear in mind that feeder expendables are sensitive, high-purity and fragile products, and must be installed according to the refractory manufacturer’s guidelines to avoid installation errors that lead to machine downtime.

This presentation focuses on typical mistakes made when installing feeder expendables, provides recommendations on how to avoid these mistakes, and introduces the latest developments from RATH.

Glassman Latin America takes place at the Expo Santa Fe in Mexico City. the combined trade show and conference is focused on the processes of glass manufacturing and trends to innovate the production process.

The trade show and conference are free to attend.
